ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

Weekly free class, on a Wednesday, 6pm - 8pm. Informal English conversation classes aimed at anyone including asylum seekers and refugees. There are 3 ways to be involved in the ESOL Collective:

1. Student - This is a great opportunity to:

  • Meet other people.
  • Practice English in a supportive environment.
  • Develop English skills for work, and other practical day-to-day activities.

2. Teacher - Currently one of our volunteers is teaching ESOL and we do not need another teacher but if you are interested get in touch and we can see what we can do. Lesson plans are available, and you do not need teaching experience. Speakers of English as a second language are welcome to volunteer as ESOL teachers. An ideal  opportunity for anyone wanting to learn new skills, or improve existing ones in:

  • Planning and delivering a lesson.
  • Building confidence through working with a group.
  • Getting experience of running a group.
  • Improving English grammar skills.

3. Classroom assistant helping to prepare and run ESOL lessons. Currently we have a volunteer classroom assistant but get in touch if you are interested and we will see what we can do. Volunteering as a teacher or classroom assistant would be an ideal opportunity for anyone wanting to learn new skills, or improve existing ones in:

  • Building confidence through working with a group.
  • Getting experience of running a group.
  • Improving English grammar skills.
